We are saddened by the fire Thursday, December 15th, in The Vintage Lady Shop, housed in the oldest commercial building in Tustin, the First Physician's Office on El Camino. Fortunately, no one was injured and we're optimistic that the building can be rebuilt using the existing facade. That part seems to have survived intact. Owner Margaret Pottenger was alerted by police shortly before 3:00 on Thurday, and both she and her cat were escorted through what she describes as thick, black smoke.
We are thankful that the fire didn't occur on Friday the 16th, with the strong Santana winds, or there could have been so much more damage to this mostly wooden community. Our thoughts are with Kathy Jerrill who owned The Vintage Lady and Margaret.

Huell Howser, star and producer of the PBS series “California’s Gold”, visited Old Town Tustin on July 31st for a look at a few of our historic treasures. Shown above with Conservancy president Linda Jennings who served as guide, Huell had a nostalgic tour of some of our town’s most interesting and revered locations to be featured on an upcoming edition of his popular show on PBS. Starting at the Tustin Historical Museum with old-timer Dennis Hayden, Huell and Jennings went to the Tustin Blacksmith Shop, chatting with Victor Anderson, then continuing with Gordon Bean at the Wooden Indian Barbershop, Annette Bartolomucci at Mrs. B’s, and ending the day at the Tustin Garage enjoying a plate of ribs with Tim DeCinces, owner of the new Beach Pit BBQ.
